In addition to receiving the award, Jason delivered a keynote session titled “Rewriting Life’s Code to Create New Polymers, Materials, and Medicines.” His talk outlined recent progress in expanding the genetic code and developing systems for the encoded synthesis of non-canonical biopolymers. He discussed advances such as engineered tRNA synthetase pairs and fully synthetic genomes, and how these technologies may enable new classes of polymeric materials and therapeutic molecules.
Jason’s research has centred on expanding and redesigning the genetic code, enabling new ways to engineer biological systems and opening possibilities for future applications in medicine, materials and sustainable biomanufacturing. His work at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Constructive Bio has established key foundations for the next generation of synthetic genomics.
The SynBioBeta Impact Award recognises the influence of these contributions and their role in shaping the field’s emerging capabilities.
